Our British team of coaches and scouts are coming to Nigeria in August to offer scholarship opportunities to talented Nigerian players. GUFC have seen so much footballing talent in Nigeria, but have found the pathways are not available. We use pathways to the USA and Canada to create opportunities for young people to set them up for life. We use the power of football to open doors to the best education in the world.
How does it work?
GUFC are looking for players aged 16-20 who want to play football at a high level and study at the same time as student-athletes in the USA or Canada. We will select just 60 players for each showcase dependent on your footballing and academic credentials. For each showcase, GUFC offers a number of players the opportunity to study abroad if they show the right footballing talent and attitude levels. The selected players will then join the scholarship programme to go to University in 2022. “It’s an unbelievable opportunity for talented players to experience the lifestyle of a professional footballer and save some money on world-class education”, said 2021 scholar Bolaji Musa Tolani. “A once in a lifetime opportunity that I thank GUFC for greatly”.
Why USA and Canada?
USA and Canada are widely recognized as the best countries on the planet for Universities. In fact, QS World University Rankings® 2021 found that 14 of the top 30 Universities in the world are in the USA or Canada. Your footballing talent could help significantly reduce your university fees, allowing you to pursue the dream of being a professional footballer whilst gaining a world-class education. With excellent education inevitably comes some expense. We have saved players $30 million in University fees creating opportunities that would otherwise be impossible for some families.
American and Canadian universities boast world-class training facilities, stadiums, specialized coaches, physios, psychologists, strength and conditioning gyms and many universities regularly have stadiums filled with thousands of fans. The lifestyle of a collegiate athlete is similar to a professional player and prepares you for the next step.
There are many active players at the top level who have become professional after studying at Universities in the USA and Canada. Zack Steffen (Manchester City), DeAndre Yedlin (Galatasary), Jack Harrison (Leeds United), Cyle Larin (Besiktas) Joao Moutinho (Orlando City FC), Robbie Robinson (Inter Miami CF) and many, many more…
...could you be the next?
